Does anybody else hate to have blood taken?

Just got back from the Dr. for my annual physical and had to give a blood sample. Its no big deal, it barely hurts but it really creeps me out to have my blood taken. Have had lots of needles in my day, maybe its just the location and that green color.

I can't help it, but everytime they put a needle in me, I always end up almost fainting (blood pressure drops quickly). Very unpleasant :(

A good phlebotomist is a wonderful thing...

The ones who do it and you can't even feel a thing are amazing...

The ones who poke and dig need to find another line of work. I won't let the nurse at my pediatrician's office take my kid's blood because she is sooooo bad! I always go to a lab instead.

Thanks for the responses, I think.

The PA that took my blood today was THE BEST, a rating I only give myself. I didnt feel anything but a sliding sensation as the needle entered. (get your minds out of the gutter) told her she could take my blood anytime but now that she had done it so well, I wold never let anyone else in the office do it. The reward for a job well done, more work.

I dont mind doing it, I dont mind watching it done to others and blood during any type of operation has never bothered me. Its the thinking about it before it happens that is the worst.

I don't like the initial pain, after that is ok unless the want to fill more than 3 tubes. Ouch!

I CAN'T STAND it. I don't feel like I'm going to faint, though. I think I get more mad:). I turn my head to the other side, grit my teeth together, etc... That metal thing does not belong in my body:).

I can't donate blood safely because my blood pressure is hyper low and I pass out easily. The funny thing is that I don't bleed worth a damn. I had to give a DNA sample once and they must have jabbed that needle into each arm 3 times before I bled a little.

Nope, now I even watch every move the needle makes encluding going into my arm cause i once saw a nurse wipe up somebody's blood and not change her gloves to get the next sample.

Bobtist, I'm with you...the pain or shock doesn't affect me, but I'll be damned if it's a natural thing to have any part of my skin pierced...

Needles are aweful no matter how you look at it. So are we talking blood drawn hurts less than getting a shot?

I donate blood to the Red Cross every 8 weeks, so it doesn't bother me anymore, so long as I look the other way when they poke me with the needle. Heck, it's a good thing to do, blood is always needed and it helps save the lives of people that get in accidents, need transfusions etc etc. The little discomfort for 20 minutes is well worth it :)

I haven't had my blood taken for years, I was like 8 when it was taken last. All I remember was that the doctor was really bad because it hurt like hell. I didn't care though, I just liked watching the blood flow out into the tube :p

I think it's kinda cool watching. It hurts a little, but so far I've been lucky - no one has missed or had to try several times.
I could never do stuff like that to anybody else though.

Blood taken for test results is nothing but when you're donating blood, that's the worst. My arm becomes numb and I start to get dizzy.

I've never had a doc/nurse miss a vein when drawing blood. If they had to repoke me, there would be hell to pay. I'd probably end up drawing blood from them.

Worst is probably a blood gas test. They poke a needle right into the artery in your wrist and let it sit to draw blood. You can see it pumping into the tube. Pretty nifty.

I donated blood once and really didn't like it. I was light headed the rest of the day, and I'm a big guy that it shouldn't bother. The OJ that the Red Cross gave me tasted disgusting. That's reason enough for me not to go back.

Can't say I really mind, as long as the doc/technician doesn't miss or go through the back.
