Does anybody else hate Slashdot's comments structure?

I just pull their RSS feed for tech news. I never bother reading through their comments because the system is archaic. They need to get with the times/.

I personally don't like cartoonish forum software like Fusetalk and UBB. I liked the old Usenet hierarchy myself. There are many forums that use that time, Anandtech was like that also.

I find that cartoonish forum designs attract a younger crowd, which destroy the forums.

Without avatars and emoticons, would you like FT/UBB/Vbulletin ? They're much better for following a thread. I really dislike having to figure out which replies goes to which, etc. with the slashdot hierarchical format.

/. is filled with malfunctioning human beings such that the geek community itself has rejected them. Overopinionated fanboyism is the accepted norm there. The rest of the nerd world has rejected that. It's like P&N, except worse.

Their karma system of deciding what posts are visible and what are not REALLY rubs me the wrong way.

And some morons were all excited about Commander Taco or whoever coming to my school? Guy who started /.? Whatever.

slashdot's comment system is not a forum system. it rewards good posts and hides away all the spammers, trolls, etc. check out aintitcoolnews for how pathetic a site looks when they use a traditional forum look for the main comments.

Check out the comments system at Shacknews. It's straightforward, compact, and actually usable.

Slashdot... it's like they have their own esoteric system just so they can condescend to those who don't "get it."

I don't know what site all of you are visiting. A "5" rated comment on Slashdot is usually more interesting, insightful, or funny than anything I'll get from an entire day reading this forum.

yet another vote for their comment system sucking.

I don't really visit slashdot all that often, though. by the time 95% of the stories get posted, I've already read them elsewhere hours beforehand. the other 5% are stories that I wouldn't have cared about anyways 😉
