Does anybody else hate it when a seller asks you how much they said something costs?

I was calling around to lawnmower repair places today, looking for a used self propelled lawnmower. I finally found one in our price range. He said it was 99$ over the phone.

When we came to pay for it, he asked me how much he said it was. I repeated 99$.

It always makes me feel awkward for some reason. I imagine it's perfectly normal to them, but it still gives me a weird feeling. Anybody else get that feeling when someone does this? It happened the other day at a garage sale too.

Maybe it's the proposition that they could think you're lying to them or something..

It's an older Toro self propelled side discharge mower. 4HP Tecumseh engine. 30 day parts and labor warranty.

With 3 pumps of the primer bulb, starts first pull. Compression test reads 70PSI, so she's definately been used, but still has lots of life left.

Got it from Jay's Mower and Chainsaw on Williams Ave. in North portland. Nice guy. Nobody local had anything at all, for any price. Stark Street Lawn & Garden had a high end Honda for 500$.

Had to use the truck, so it cost 5$ in gas.. So I guess it was a 104$ lawnmower, lol.

It rocks! I totally forgot what a mower was supposed to be like. It actually cuts the grass. Our old one had been inoperable for about a month now, so the grass was quite a jungle.. It plowed through the tallest grass without so much as a hickup. And it did so while turning at a leisurely 2600RPM.. I had our old mower screaming along at 4000+RPM(~500RPM over redline!) and it still wouldn't cut sh!t.

Our old mower would have kicked and sputtered and died two dozen times had I tried such a feat with it... even with a freshly sharpened blade. Mostly because the chute was all bent up and it didn't discharge grass right, so it just clogged up and would kill it.

The only bad thing about it is that it is front-wheel drive. Our old mower was rear wheel drive.. With the power on the rear wheels, it makes the mower much more maneuverable.. You can lift the front end up and avoid obstacles easily.. turn on a dime. With the front wheel drive, it's hard to push and turn at the same time.. If you want the mower to pull you, you have to take it's whole normal turning radius. But I'll get used to it.. I had already gotten the hang of it by the time I was done with the lawn.

all ya needed to do was sharpen your blade from your old mower 😀
Negative. I did sharpen it. It did help, but the mower still sucked.. The engine was on it's way out, it had no power. I had a new engine for it, but like I said.. the mower chassis just wasn't worth fixing.

Try listing dozens of items for sale (ie on a For Sale board) with constantly changing prices (ie price drops), and having 12 year old kids on AOL IMing you asking the price when the price is LISTED on the ads. That's why *I* always ask what I listed it as.

I'm not sure I've ever had it happen online, but I don't think it would make me feel awkward in that position.. Typing is much different than in person.
