Does any one else invest $ with Drips?

Ah, yes, divident reinvestment for long periods of time. My Grandad put $1000 into AEP when I was born, and it's now worth ~$20,000. Very good way to invest for the long-term, but it's lower liquidity than going through a broker.

Once I get enough money, I have six stocks in which I'm going to place either $1000 or $2000, depending on how much I start making, and I'm going to hide away the papers and ignore them for as long as I can. Ideally they'd sit long enough to help me pay for my kids' college.

graci for the bump Orsorum, how are you coming along in your goals towards becoming a CPA? I've been thinking about in the future getting a MA in accounting.

On a related note, I no longer automatically reinvest dividends on the stocks I own. I prefer to have the cash flow to grow my cash position so I can take advantage of other buying opportunities. The new tax rate on dividends makes this work well for me.

Well, I'm still in the middle of the application process for the UW business school (which, btw, is driving me NUTS, I got a letter today about my other nearly completed degree)... I just want to find out asap whether I'm in or not.

If I get in, then I do accounting, finish next Spring, then get a MPAcc the year after and take the CPA exam over the summer, then go work for a few years, then law school.

If I don't... well, probably spend the next year working part time at a finance firm/bank and finishing a double degree in Classical Studies (just for fun), then move into working full time, for a few years, then apply to an MBA program, go through, and get my CPA that way. Not sure when I'd go to law school after that.

*sigh* Still at least two years away. 🙁
