Does any know if the AMD Dual core are going to go down in price

Hahaha, yes, like Jedi said, AMD X2 processors are going to buck forty years of historical behavior and.... appreciate!

JEDIYoda is our favorite prankster.

On a more serious note, why don't you get the most powerful, affordable single core you can get?
If you're not doing heavy multitasking, I wouldn't bother with X2s.

Or, on a even more serious note, why don't you just drop off a bridge and commit suicide? Making decisions these days is way too difficult. We all have to go to bulletin boards to consult people before doing anything. Hell, it just seems much more simple to just end it all.

Why would they?

They are selling well (most shops have trouble keeping stock) and Intel has no real competitor.

AMD prices haven't moved much in the past couple of years. The only time the prices drop is when a socket is phased out (754 is slowly fading) and replaced by a new socket (M2 is a year or so away). AMD did drop prices like crazy during the AXP era when they were trying to compete with the P4. With the A64 (and the FX and X2) Intel is playing catchup, so AMD doesn't need to move on its prices until Intel can produce an equivalent chip (the P-M based replacement is late 2006/2007).

If you need (need=personal decision on justifying the opening and emptying of the wallet) an X2 get one. If not, single core A64s are still really good, and much cheaper.

The advice I give everyone I know - set yourself and budget and a date and on that date spend all that money. That way you get the best you can afford at that moment in time. Procrastination is not a strength in the PC world.

I agree....

NO competition at this moment and they actually have a shortage in some markets meaning even if AMD reduces the cost slightly (which would make no economic sense) the etailers are going to mark them up cause of demand...

basic law of ecoomics is you lower prices to move product...when you are already moving yuour supplyu and demand is greater then you usually raise prices...AMD wouldn't do this at their end because of backlash....
