Does anti-virus software catch key logging software?

JEDI

I'm running Norton Anti-virus. I ran a mpg file, and apparently it contained scripts cause a couple of pop-ups came up. (the movie played fine though.)

just wondering if there could have been a hidden key-logging software secretly installed on my computer from that?

how can a mpg file contain scripts. are you sure it was an mpg.

it depends. if i custom make a keylogger i doubt nav can catch it. but if it's a popular trojan then yeah.

Isn't it true that keyloggers are forms of trojans?

Everytime I run antivirus software with any type of keylogger on it, it always catches it as a trojan.

a good firewall should.

AV progs should also, if the keylogger is classified as a trojan, but not all are. thanks for MSFT and their garbage grade java and active script security, anything is possible thru those pop-ups if u let them load all the way.

but doesn't it need to be in their virus/trojan database?

Probably. I'm unsure of how it works.

well I've made keyboard hooks before (not for keylogging) and nav doesn't detect them. I think in order for nav to detect it it has to be a known trojan/virus so if you custom make one there's no way nav can pick it up unless somebody reports it. computer programs aren't intelligent enough to tell what's a virus/trojan by itself just yet 😉

hmm yah some porn flims have thoses where it pops up a porn site from the porn movie playing its somehow made into the movie.
