im particulay curious to this benchmark when he was comparing ti500 vs radeon 8500 http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1544&p=10

i can come within 10fps of his benchmark with almost same hardware with the sound off but with sound on i am not even close

he didnt mention in that article whether sound was on or off. anyone know by any chance. thanks!!

type in console before benchmarking:

s_initsound 0
snd_restart

neways after a more carefull examination of anands test system ive noticed he didnt even have a soundcard in his machine !
so i guess that explains it

Sound off. Sharky or Firingsquad use sound on which gives a more realisic gaming benchmark.

Sound on does not give a realistic BENCHMARK though, these benchmarks are not even realistic "GAMING" bench's even with the sound off. These benchmarks stress your VIDEO components to see how they run under extreme stress from a game.

We're not trying to see what soundcard is best, are we?

yup, same reason you see 640x480 resolution benchmarks when CPU benches are done. who plays in 640x480? you get up too high and the memory bandwidth on the vidcard becomes the limit, not the CPU, so the res is dropped and it's completely CPU limited.

yeah.. the idea (i'd think) would be to limit the test to one component however possible
