Does an AthlonXP/SDRAM/Video Onboard Mobo exist? (I need one)

Topic says it all: I have an Athlon XP 1700+, a 512 MB stick of SDRAM and would like a motherboard that has onboard video. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There is the KM133a, and SOME KM266's have both DDR and Sdram(the KM266 with both would be the best buy). I think SiS might also have a chipset but don't know???

I take it you don't play games?? The on-board savage 4 is OK, but nothing for any type of 3D games

Marlin - thanks for the reply.

Actually, I'm building a system for my daughter (age 4). As she's not quite up to the UT2003 level yet, onboard will do her just fine. :)

I assume the KM266 is a chipset? As for SiS, they have the 730S, which would seem to satisfy my needs.

Here's another you might want to look at MSI Fixed. I'll post a couple more links for ya in a bit. ;) M810LR Don't even think about overclocking with this one. Here's an offering from ASUS

I got this biostar motherboard 3 days ago. Fixed it up with 1700+ and my old PC133/PC100 memory. No Problems whatsoever. Unbelievable performance boost from my old Pentium2 nightmare.:)

That Biostar board does look good. It has a 3 phase power supply so it should support up to a Athlon 2400+ and maybe higher.

But this is a KT266a board with onboard video(hense KM266) so it is a good chipset and your Daughter can upgrade the video with the agp port and add some DDR later when dad learns that even 4 year olds want some UT2003/Doom3 action :)

Maybe they'll release a "Barbie & Ken" skin/voice pack for UT2003! :D I can just imagine Barbie's taunts:

"That's for leaving the toilet seat up! :p"
"You fight like a boy!"
"Math is hard!"
"I love to capture the flag with my friends! :D"

Warning, the KM266's integrated video SUCKS at gaming, even when paired with DDR RAM, worse still when using SDRAM.

You want to use the SiS 740 chipset, as found on ECS K7SOM and L7SOM. One of those has SDR and DDR RAM slots.

regards, Peter

Chumster hinted that the motherboard will not be used for gaming. Glad to see alot of help and suggestions being provided here though.

The SIS 740 chipset boards have no agp slot for future upgrades.

The 810lmr is fine board with support for XP2100+ as well as an agp slot for vid upgrades. I built one with an XP1600+ and it works great.

PS: you can download the overclockers BIOS for this board if you wish.

Right, SiS 740 chipset doesn't offer an AGP bus ... but its integrated graphics unit has usable 3D performance to live with, something you really can't say of the VIA chipsets.

That is true.

Weird thing is: the SIS video drivers are much more full featured than MB manufacture's are. My Amptron board came with the amptron vid drivers. They were just basic. I downloaded the SIS ones and wow, talk about options. Including openGL and D3D.

It all depends on what is meant by "gaming". I have a KM133A board and the integrated Super Savage does older games like Tomb Raider II/III, Diablo II LOD, Earthworm Jim 3D, Duke Nukem, 3D Ultra Pinball, Chessmaster, The Sims and just about any kind of children's edutainment title just fine. 3D quality is on par with the Rage128 Pro boards but is slightly slower, and that is with a 900MHz Duron and 128MB SDRAM. Given a XP1700+ and 512MB it might exceed Rage128 Pro performance.

The AGP slot is a must, though, or you're stuck with that performance....forever.

I'm in a similar situation where we're building a system for a small family with a small child and modest computing requirements.

To complicate things, I've got a few old PCI S3 video cards with I think 2MB of memory that seem to play these kids games ok. How do they compare to these onboard performers?

Oh, I also have an extra 128MB module of PC133 SDRAM and a Matrox G450 with 16MB of SDRAM available.

After all this typing I think with all these spare video cards maybe I need to post a new thread.:(
