Does an A64 run cooler than a Prescott P4?

I am curious if the Athlon64 burns cooler than an equivalent Prescott - say, a 3200+ A4 compared to a 3.0Ghz Prescott. I've heard that heat is a function of clock speed, among other things. So will an A64 run cooler? I've read the articles and they lead in that direction, but I am curious about your personal experience.

Also because Prescott was a lousy design -- hotter than Northwood but not much faster (slower sometimes).

Intel's plans to bundle a small space heater with their new prescott CPUs in order to gain an advantage in the Eskimo market does have some disadvantages.

Funny, 3 years ago people were saying the same thing about Athlons. My oh my how the tables have turned.

Yes, I do believe the A64 runs cooler than a Prescott. However, I cannot say for sure that it is due to the higher clock frequency of the Prescott.

My new Athlon64 3000+ Winchester with an XP90 and using AC5 idles at 33C in a 68F room (for a point of reference). It's not overclocked yet. I noticed that the Vcore is really low compared to the XP (1.45 or something). The chip has a heatspreader, which the XP and T-birds did not. I don't know if it's cooler than a Prescott (not having seen a Prescott rig in action), but it's definately cool enough.

a64 run cooler, especially the winchesters

the lower prescott models are OK hot, wont give u problems. the 3.6 and 3.8ghz will throttle from heat if u leave it on running 100% cpu for too long.

prescott temperature seem to go up 1 degree or so with every 100mhz, maybe thats why there r no 4ghz yet
