Does Allan Houston have the sweetest contract in pro sports?

Not a bad deal for a player that last played in 20 out of 82 games in the 2004-2005 season where he made around 20 million.

He made over 20 million for the 2005-2006 season and over 20 million for the 2006-2007 season even though he retired in 2005.

Not a bad deal to retire and still get your full contract. Gotta love the NBA player's union.

Reasons like that are why guaranteed contracts will never make it into the NFL. I am sure the Knicks will get some relief though.

The NBA player's union has to be one of the most successful advocacy groups ever. How anyone ever thought he was worth that sort of money is beyond me. He was a good (but not great) player, and a great shooter, but still ... $20 mil?

the knicks though don't pay a dime of the 40 million he is owed. though he counts against their salary cap.

since allan retired due to medical reasons(bad knees), insurance pays for what he is owed.

daaayyaaaammm....:Q

Yeah, I remember reading a list (I think it was at CNNSI) of the most overpaid players. I believe Allan Houston was only 4th or 5th on that list.

I wonder what the Insurance Premium for an NBA team is....

Wouldn't that be the Knicks' stupidity for the contract?

Yea, but Allan Houston and Brian Grant are getting paid to do nothing, zip, zilch. That's an even better deal. Because of guaranteed contracts they are still getting paid while sitting at home.

Imagine a hundred years ago--who would have ever thought that someone who runs back and forth on a court, with the purpose of putting a basketball through a hoop, could make such money.

I'm all for it & think they should take whatever the market will give them. I wonder if in another 50-100 years they will be taking home even more. Imagine the first billion dollar sports contract? 😱

For the good ol' mayans, you get to die after putting a ball through a hoop.
