Does all RDRAM/RAMBUS memory have an SPD module?

Hi all. I need to get some memory for an Intel D820LP mobo which uses RAMBUS PC600/PC800 (it's a Socket 370 & 820 chipset), and the manual and webpage says it can only support SPD memory. Apparently it's a big secret whether or not vendors are selling RDRAM w/SPD since no one mentions it one way or another. Does anyone know if by some chance all RDRAM has the SPD chip?
Thanks.

It should all have an SPD chip. Are you upgrading the amount of memory for the motherboard, and already have RAM on it? RDRAM is so freakin expensive...and it was entirely unbenificial for P3's.

Thanks for the reply. This is an old mobo I never used, and I want to use for my test PC since I sold my last one. So I've never gotten any memory for it yet. So, you're saying that all RAMBUS is going to have the SPD chip? Some place at Pricewatch has Samsung PC600 256mb for $50 (I know I need two), but they of course don't even give you the Samsung PN for it. :disgust:

$50 for 256mb of PC600 isn't too bad of a price, a pair of those should work fine with that motherboard.

If you are willing to shop Ebay, there are (were at least two weeks ago when I was looking) some great deals on PC600. PC800/PC1066 still carries a lofty price tag, but not the PC600/PC700.

BTW: IIRC, the 820 chipset works with single modules, does it not? I believe all you need to do is fill the additional slots with CRimms. see here

Yeah, it says in the manual you can use one stick in it with the CRIMM in the other.

So....what about the SPD chip--are both of you saying I don't have to worry about this, any RDRAM I get is going to have the SPD chip on it?
Thanks guys.
