Hi there. I have a question. I have a older computer that I am going to buy some memory for. It's a Athlon XP 2000+ CPU 266, and the motherboard I think is 266.

The motherboard is a PC Chips M811 VIA KT 266A/8235

I am wondering which memory I should buy? Is it ok to put DDR 400 memory in it or should I go for the 266 memory?.

I was kind of thinking maybe buying 400 for the system as its the same price and gives better room to upgrade in the future.

So If I put 400 memory in the system will it just automatically clock down to 266?

Is all 400 memory 266 compatible?

Oh ya I should mention that this system isnt overclocked at all. Just running all stock.

Thanks for the help.

DDR400 should work fine with older boards even if they only support DDR333 or lower. ;)

P.S. I should sell you my old ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, Barton 2500+, and some good DDR-3200.

I need to sell some of this stuff before it becomes as worthless as my Elsa GF2-Ultra, lol.

Hey ya. Just curious were you wanting to sell all that stuff together or parted out?

What kind of memory do ya have?

I don't know for AMD's processors, but for my old P4 2.4Ghz 533fsb, all fast memory would clock down because of the slower FSB.
