Does AIW 8500 AT ALL work with ABIT KX7-333R ?

Does anyone know if the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500 128MB card works with the ABIT KX7-333R motherboard ?

With this combination, my system is not POSTing at all. I don't even hear the long-short-short beep that some other people have reported with the ABIT-KR7A + AIW 8500 combination. The system simply goes thru the startup sequence, i.e. the motherboard LEDs light up, the floppy/CD/hard drives start up, the network card LEDs light up etc. but the display remains blank and I don't hear any beep at all.

The motherboard itself is perfectly fine as I have tried with two other video cards (including an AIW 7500); the AIW 8500 card is fine by itself too, as I have tried it in my second system with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. It is just the KX7+8500 combination that seems to give me a hard time.

I have already tried increasing the AGP aperture size all the way upto 256MB and increased the I/O voltage to 2.65v ... and none of these have helped.

If there is anyone for which this combination works, could you please let me know.

Thanks for any feedback !

Do you mean the video card ? That is highly unlikely because I already replaced it once and neither the first one or the second one (both brand new) would work on this mobo but would work fine in the A7N8X

what about overclocking?,,if your FSB is overclocked try lowering it back to default and see if it'll work.

Yes, I am overclocking this machine (FSB @ 155) but I suspected this might be a problem and hence reset the BIOS and then loaded fail safe defaults, and it STILL didn't work !

I even removed all non-essential cards from the machine and tried booting with just the AIW 8500 and one stick or RAM, and still no go :(

How difficult will it be for you to test this card in another computer?

It really sound like the card is fried. This would be the easiest way to verify this. Maybe you can bring it down to a local PC Shop see if they can get it running on one of their systems.

I have already tried this card in my second computer (with an ASUS A7N8X motherboard) and the system boots just fine. So, yes, the card itself is fine. The first motherboard (KX7-333R) is also fine since I can use any other video card and it boots up just fine.

It is just the combination of the KX7-333R and the AIW 8500 that is not working.

That's why I am curious to know if this combo works for anyone here.

Does this sound familar to you? Different combo/problem but major issues
Here is my experience with a Sapphire Radeon 8500LE 64MB (but actually a 128MB):

Install it into my Abit KT7A motherboard - installation smooth as silk did not even remove nvidia drivers - installations was actually EASIER THAN NVIDIA Games are running perfectly - performance boost from my GF2 Pro is significant - very impressed

Format and Rebuild my system with ECS K7S5A motherboard - problems loading ATI drivers.

Eventually get the drivers installed and the graphics card running - cannot play OpenGL games without HUGE graphics problems - D3D games play but after 10-15mins the rendering goes rainbow coloured...

I try new drivers, new BIOS, new radeon BIOS (9100) and after a week of constant evenings spent f@cking around I'm still in the same situation. The GF2 Pro goes back into the system and all is well - there are NO ISSUES WITH THE ECS BOARD.

A week later a Sapphire Radeon 128MB arrives from Amazon.com - take out the GF2 install the new Radeon Card and it works perfectly.

Conclusion - there was some type of conflict between the ORIGINAL Radeon 8500 and the ECS motherboard - Now the ORIGINAL Radeon 8500 works fine in other systems - why it would not work with the ECS board I have absolutely no idea.

There are a lot of cases out there where the cards refuse to work in certain motherboards for some unknown reason :(
