Does AAA cover the person or the car?

My wife and I both split driving on a single car, do we need two AAA memberships? Or is it just 1 for the car?

AFAIK, you just need to present them with the card. So if you keep it in the car, either of you should be covered?

Could be wrong tho.

Covers the person I think.

I've had them work on other people's cars. I just needed to be there.

Depending on the guy, he may or may not confirm the person on the card is the person handing it to him.

It's the person. It's very common around here for people to call a friend with AMA if they have any problems.

For example... they've locked themselves out of their car... call friend... friend comes out, calls AMA (same thing) and they open the car up.

just saying how it is... haven't used AMA in 5 years, and i was a member myself when i used it

its great! just knowing someone can get u service. gotta show the card aleast either way. so one way or the other your friend needs to show up, he might not need to stay but what kind of friend wouldn't stay...

With most like AAA it's the cardholder that's covered...doesn't matter if your were driving or a passenger or even just there.

Did you read my OP? We only need it for one car, shared between my wife and I. Our other car has roadside assistance from the Manuf.

Check your policy. It should cover both of you. They even cover kids in your family up to age 18......

I have used AAA for girlfriend's cars and family members cars. Just as long as I am there to show them the card all is fine. And yes they will ask for the model/color of the car or at least they should to identify the car. They sometimes even ask for the license plate number. With the discounts you get and not have to worry about being stuck somewhere if something happens. It's great. I have the plus with 100miles free towing so I know I am covered.

Did you read my OP? We only need it for one car, shared between my wife and I. Our other car has roadside assistance from the Manuf.

You can get a AAA family membership with multiple cards.

He doesn't need multiple cards.

Just write your card number and give it to your wife. The tow truck driver isn't going to ask for the card. He doesn't care because he gets paid by AAA.

My parents did this with me.

You can try that...the risk of a tow driver thinking you are somehow scamming him though and not assisting; to me is not worth the small additional fee for a second member on the account.

Covers the person. Last week i called up AAA and used my friends AAA membership number when I called up. Told them I didnt have the card in my possession at the time, the tow truck driver didnt even ask for id or anything. I have done this at least three times in the past five or so years..

well to me $52 is not enough to worry about a tow truck asshat refusing to accept a scrawled number esp if it's going to be a big tow.
