Does a title have to have your name to get a car out of impound?

This is in tennessee... long story short; my uncle was thrown in jail for aggravated robbery. His truck was impounded and my mom and grandmother want to get it out. He said she can sign the back of the title and that's all she needs. Before I drive her up there I want to know for sure.

I tried calling the impound lot at no avail. I called two other towing/impound places and they had no clue.

so, can she just sign the back (as though she 'bought' it) and get it out; or will she have to go through the processes to get the title totally transferred to her name?

What would they do if you still have a loan on the car? Doesn't the bank hold the title then?

Yeah I know, but I'm wondering why they would require the title to retrieve the car, as you could possibly not have the title.

The situation is that her name isn't printed on the title... i.e., the title says "Joe Schmoe"

and she's signed the back with her name, "Amy Bull" as though she's purchased the truck...

is that good enough?
