Does a subwoofer affect hard drives?

On my old computer, with a Cambridge FPS1000 speaker system, the sub is very close to the computer, and less than a foot away from the hard drive. I know the hard drive uses magnetic stuff (or something, im not very educated in this area) so does the sub affect it? Should I move the sub away? I have two computers right next to each other. The reason one sub is very close to its computer is that I tried to keep my subwoofers as far from each other as possible. Do subs affect each other if I move them close to each other?

Thebest place for a sub-woofer is on the floor with the opening aaimed at a wall about 6-inches away from it. There should be no hard drives in that area. 🙂

well, make sure the sub is magnetically shielded. it should be since it's for a computer system. if you dont know, use a compass to test. or a needle to see if it sticks... the compass needle will still point to the sub anyway cuz of the metal in it.

as for the UNmentioned concern... the sub will cause vibrations which will wind up shaking the case which will shake the HDD if the sub is too close. shaking the HDD is not good. though this should be no problem unless the case is actually on top of the subwoofer. so, dont put the case on the sub.

as for 2 subs, that will cause problems. waves have a behavior called interference. since the bass is omnidirectional, waves will hit causing destructive and constructive interference. worst case scenarios: certain hot spots will experience NO bass whatso ever since the waves cancel each other out, AND other hot spots will experience up to 2X the bass due to the waves adding. i advice not being in either types of hotspots.

Thanks, I think the sub isn't shielded because my monitor goes all screwed when I move it close. The sub isn't really powerful even on full volume, this was a $50 system. It's close to the case, but not touching.

I've got a 12" JBL sub about 6" away from 2 hdds in the boot of my car, all in the same enclosure, and they've been running fine for 6 months so far, and they undergo a lot of vibration, and i'm sure magnetic attraction what with the huge magnet on the back of the sub!

So i think a tiny little sub in the home will be fine near the hard drive 😉
