Does a Slot 1 PIII Coppermine 1GHz CPU exist?

I just got my hands on a Dell Precision Workstation 410 (BX-chipset; dual-CPU support), and it now has a 450MHz PII CPU.
On Dells support page, I saw that, after a BIOS-update, you can upgrade the PII to a PIII 700MHz.
Since a 1GHz PIII also exists, I'd like to plug in one of those (if the BIOS can handle it). Problem is it needs to be a Slot 1 100MHz PIII 1GHz: does this exist??

Thanks!

PIII 1 GHz is only 133 MHz bus speed.

The fastest at 100 MHz is the 850 PIII.

Also, you can always get a slotket to use a FC-PGA chip instead of a slot1.

1Ghz PIIIs w/ 100Mhz FSB do exist. I also thought they were a figment of someone's imagination. They came out very recently.

On your dell, 410, give me the revision of the mobo, open the case, lower left and corner, a yellow label.

Max for a Precision 410 depending on revision is 800Mhz , Slot 1, I tried 850 FC-PGAs on slocket, gets weird errors on Abit !!! and Iwill slockets 2.

if you get 2 retail p3 800 secc2 cpu, and a 3pin->4 pin fan adapter, it fits right in there, u have to get rid of the green crap fan duct. OEM - look for fan = hard to find one that FITS..

But anyway, let me know the revision of the mobo and you'll need that A14 BIOS also..

I am running the special Edition Intel P3 Slot 1 1Ghz, by special edition i mean it was meant for the media to review and test. It came with a free motherboard, 128MB PC800 and a larger HS and 2 fans.

Absolutely. My local Intel dealer told me Slot 1 100FSB PIII 1Ghzs are available when I upgraded to Dual PIII 800s(can't afford dual 1Ghzs).

I found a unicorn FS at a computer fair once...try computer fairs.

I went to one this last weekend: pick up a V5 5500 retail for $155 (w/tax). Many vendors wee selling 1G PIII's of all flavors.

Almost picked up a 1.2 GHz althon for $270...and that's a great price because you can sort through their chips to get a "fresh out of the oven" blue core. I saw one of these doing something like 11 x 148 = 1628 MHz with air cooling (a lot of it) on a KT7A-RAID.

Dell Fourm

One user report with A02 using Slot 1 800MHz, I would say that 800 is definite because you can't return processors, 1GHz may work, but I dont wanna get stuck with them unless you know someone.. or a store that can verify for you.. ie bring your pc in and test it there... or sell u the 800s

I can't answer any of your questions. I would like to tell you I successfully replaced the original 350MHZ processors in my Precision 410 with 800 MHZ processors. After updating the bios to A14, I simply plugged in the new chips and rebooted. No other steps were needed! The only problem I had was that I didn't fully seat the processors at first and the system wouldn't boot until I did.

My new processors are the SECC2 (slot 1) PIII 800 MHZ/100MHZ bus variety. I'm using the retail version, i.e., the ones with factory fans and 3 year warrantees. The power cables that comes with these fans have three pins, but my motherboard has no appropriate place to connect them. I've posted a message requesting a source for the 3 to 4 pin converter cables that will allow me to connect to a spare power supply connector.

The 800MHZ chips are about half the price of the 1GHZ chips and seem like a better bang for the buck to me. Good luck.

John

that after updating my bios to A14, I installed retail version (i.e., ) Intel PIII 800MHZ/100 bus processors in my Precision 410. My mother board is version A02 and the original processors were 350MHZ.
Once I got the chips properly seated the system fired right up without any
