Does a router need to be physically at the center of a network?

Suppose I want to network 5 computers together and share Internet access. Does the router and gateway to the IP need to be positioned central to the 5 computers or can one leg of the network have the router and then a switch or hub connect the 5 computers together?

Yes, you can connect it that way.

kin dof sort of....it has to have the outside lin going into it and the 5 pcs off of it from there so i guess in there, in this situation it would be centrallt located....but its not mandatory that its physically in the middle...it just needs to seperate the outside to the inside.

No you can't. The 5 computers must be connected to the router in order for it to assign each of them a virtual IP address.
