Does a purple core mean a bad cpu?

Hey My AMD Athlon XP 2200+ RIRGA has a purple core, and the system does not post. I switched mobo's and tryed a different power supply and video card and memory but still does not post. So Its prob the CPU, but i dont see how. I had great cooling (29c idle) and it wasnt overclocked. I just tryed to turn it on one morning and it wouldnt work.

Purple doesn't mean anything. As they come from the factory some look purplish, some look greenish.

In rare cases, a power supply misbehaves to the point it takes the CPU or mobo out.

Well I bought a 2100+ and it seems to be ok. But like what you said my power supply acts very strange. When I switched it on from the back, the whole computer would turn on and startup then shut off on its own after a couple of seconds, also sometimes not posting. I thought it was the power supply before but when I RMA'ed it for another one it's doing the same thing.

My setup:
Vantec 520w Stealth Power Supply
Abit Kx7-333r mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2100+
two sticks of Samsung pc2700 512MB ddr memory
ATI Radeon 9700 pro
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
linksys ethernet card
Western digital 8mb cache 80gb hard drive
Maxtor 60gb hard drive on raid
Vantec Fan controller
Lite-on 16x dvd drive
40x/16x/48x cdrw

Could it be the setup????

I have one 2100+ thqt has a purple tinted core. And that sucker OCs quite nicely. I would have no problem saying it is one bad cpu. Hehe.
