Does a proxy site completely hide my IP?

If I want to do something on a forum, and have people not be able to track it to me, will one of those proxy sites work?

Meaning what?
I just want to register at another forum and make a post, and check my PM's, but do it anonymously.

test here

A good forum admin can view logs which go beyond the IP of the poster. If verbose logging and tracking is available the proxy does nothing other than allow you to get around an IP block in the forum itself. If you intend to do something really bad the forum admin can submit the proxy IP to authorities who can probably get more information from its owner. So unless you really know what you're doing you can get caught. If you knew this you would not be posting the question in the first place. 😛

Kind of a dumb question to ask here. There is no good reason I can think of to use a proxy site for forum use.

Hmm...
Well I don't think it will cause the forum admin to do to much searching for me (if any), so I'll probably just use a proxy.

People use proxies mostly for defeating the proxy at work to get to disallowed content. But yeah it should work fine for what you're wanting as well. Thing to note is that if a site REALLY wanted to they can examine the logs, see the proxy as the client, and ask the proxy admin to cross reference with his log files. So yeah, people shouldn't think that a proxy is full proof.
