If you turn on hyperthreading with a P4 or Xeon CPU, will the Windows task manager show it as 2 separate CPUs? We have a server here that was supposed to be dual-CPU but the task manager is showing 4 CPUs. Same with the system summary in computer management.

Thanks in advance,

To turn it on, go into your bios and enable it.

Some systems ship, for whatever reason, with it off.

Believe it or not, on their PC order web form, Dell has the option for you to choose whether you want the PC shipped with HT enabled or not.

Any ideas on why you would want it off?

We got an HP workstation in at work with Dual Xeons and it was turned off... well for a minute it was anyway. :)

Stability, speed, ect.. all good.

It might generate a bit more heat under load, but its sure nothing to worry about.

There really isn't a reason it should be disabled..

It offers advantages in multiple apps..

The only thing i can think about is if your have a high borderline overclock going..

( HT creates more heat )
