Yeah, including a tidbit like this makes one appearconsiderablyslightly less like a crack-addled nutcase or dementia patient.

Actually, I've read the problems extend over years and an average of over 3K people have been arrested per year during that time. Hertz's reporting of stolen vehicles to be later found on their own lots have caused one police dept to cease taking stolen vehicle reports from Hertz....at all.Hertz is currently in court because some errors in their computer system and their procedures accidently reported some cars stolen getting a few hundred people arrested.

Hertz Will Release Records on Rental-Car 'Thefts' That Weren't
The rental-car giant's computer system is apparently at fault for claiming hundreds, maybe thousands, of renters stole vehicles they actually returned as agreed.www.caranddriver.com
Column: Renting a car from Hertz? You could wind up in jail (msn.com)Crazy thing is that back at the end of 2019 when I got rear-ended on the highway I had a Hertz rental for about 5 weeks and halfway through week #3 I got a weird voicemail from the local office saying my rental was "overdue" and had to be returned immediately. ("or else" was only implied but still)
Fortunately a quick call to the body-shop that arranged my rental to say WTF(?) resolved whatever the "problem" was and I got another voicemail apologizing but it was still weird. I didn't think about it at all until I saw the news story about Hertz doing this to a bunch of folks.
Hertz customers claim they were arrested, some jailed and even held at gunpoint after false theft reports
when I read your reply to my post i thought to myself -- the ignorance is strong in this dude!!Just so I understand... you're saying if you rent a car from Hertz, they will report it stolen and put a warrant out for your arrest?
I agree. I don't understand the hand wringing: take whatever free rental they give and just deal with whatever short term inconvenience it may cause. It's less inconvenience than having no car or having to pay for a rental. Why you wouldn't just take the free rental car and would rather drive your broken car is beyond me.
#1 - not a dudewhen I read your reply to my post i thought to myself -- the ignorance is strong in this dude!!

Hertz, the car rental company that tries to live up to its namesake.

so that is your excuse for claiming ignorance.......nice try...#1 - not a dude
#2 - You came off like a fucking crazy person, don't blame me for thinking you're a looney when you come out of left field in all caps suggesting that everyone who rents cars from Hertz gets arrested, without providing anything to support your seemingly-insane ranting. Obviously it's not a great look for Hertz, but 3,500 per year doesn't give you high odds of being one of the unlucky few.
I don't really need an "excuse" for not being aware of that particular issueso that is your excuse for claiming ignorance.......nice try...

I was, in fact, ignorant of it. I'm not sure what you mean by "nice try"? Like I'm attempting to pull off a cunning ruse, here? No, you just sounded (and still sound) a bit nutty.
