Does a mac need more than 2GB of memory

I am thinking of getting my GF a mac to keep her away from my computer 🙂 Apple charges absurd prices for upgrades above their base configuration so I don't want to get anything that will not show a noticeable benefit. All she will do is use internet and other every-day programs. No gaming, no intense encoding or other heavy tasks. Would she even notice a difference between 2 and 3 GB of memory? Thanks.

2 GB for web surfing on a mac is great.
Just don't get a mac mini -- those things are SLOW

The base configuration mac isn't bad as far as pricing goes. It only starts getting ridiculous when you try to upgrade the basic configuration. Hence this question. Trying to avoid any unnecessary upgrades.

I agree with Macs being overpriced compared to a PC with the same specs, but some people like them.

I would recommend getting the minimum memory you can. If it isn't sufficient then buy some RAM at a place like Newegg and upgrade it yourself.

2gb is okay but hit the sweet spot with 4gb (2x2gb dual channel)
