Does a laptop exist with good IPS screen and Wi-fi less than $500 dollars?

Hey,

Is there a laptop out there with a good high resolution IPS screen and good Wi-Fi capabilities?

I read this some where else about Wi-Fi.....

"802.11ac Wi-Fi: For what seems like the longest time, 802.11n was the fastest wireless Internet available. But in the past year, even quicker 802.11ac routers have cropped up, with laptop makers just now catching up. If you plan on streaming or downloading a lot of files and content to your laptop, you should strongly consider this as a selling point."

It is not for gaming. Mainly for internet surfing and skype.

Any good choices for less than $500?

How large does the screen need to be? One of the ASUS tablets with an add-on keyboard may keep you under $500. An actual laptop with IPS screen is going to cost double your budget, and even then the choices will be few (Dell XPS15, Thinkpad T440, some of the gaming laptops from Sager, etc).

About 14 inch screen.

Honestly, its for my Dad and its just to make him call my sister on skype and normal web surfing.

I mainly wanted good clear resolution screen with good wifi built in router.

What about a Chromebook or Tablet?

A Chromebook won't get you high-resolution, but should suffice for a web-browsing and Skype station. But finding one with a 14-inch IPS display may be difficult. HP's 11-inch Chromebook is IPS...

The acer v5 is back on sale for $499 at the Microsoft Store. It has a msata slot so you can add an ssd and a wifi card you can easily access (if you want AC so badly over 5 ghz wireless N you can find AC wireless cards for about $30 on newegg that go inside your laptop).

Video where the guy opens the laptop about 3 mins and you can see the motherboard and the locations of the all parts.

Also no junkware since this is the microsoft store and thus the laptops are signature editions.

Now I known of this laptop for a long while, but I did not post it earlier for it was not on sale and it was sold out at the microsoft store. Note some V5s are ips, some are tn, some are 1920x1080 some are 1366x768. You can also google a model and go to acer's website to find out.

Thanks for this. Looks sweet to me as well🙂

There is also a good deal for yoga pro but that is almost $300 more but it has a different form factor and a 256gb ssd already. Note it has SHITTY wifi but that can be remedied easily if you do not mind opening it up.

You do realize that 802.11ac is not going to make your internet faster right (compared with 802.11n)?

It means you have 5 ghz wifi plus 2.4 ghz wifi. 5 ghz wifi is inferior to 2.4 ghz wifi if you live in the middle of nowhere, but if you are in a city with lots of neighbors or wifi devices the 2.4 band is so cluttered it is kinda useless. Not all n devices have 5 ghz, one way to tell is look for wireless A compatibility. 5 ghz wifi is so much more empty and thus reliable if you are close to the source and/or have little walls and other interference.

And if you are doing data transfers such as transferring a video from desktop to laptop/tablet/phone AC is much faster than N but slower than ethernet.

And that's my point. If you're doing a lot of data transfers between PC's over wireless, that's the scenario where AC is faster. But most people aren't doing that. At least to the extent that they "have to have" AC, because 600Mbps or even 300 Mbps isn't fast enough.

If you have modern hardware, your internet connection is almost always going to be bottle-necked by your ISP. Special consideration if you have interference issues.

I understand but my point is that if it has AC you know it has 5 ghz. If its N it may or may not, you have to look for the technical information. 5 ghz very important.

I agree with the internet connection detail AC will not help here, nor will it help with the range compared to dual band N.
