Does a fridge's ice maker use up much water?

I made a post several weeks ago regarding this issue, but I just thought of something. well, the blue dial in the water meter spins slowly, but it does have a negative effect as my water bill has been more than $50 a month. it should be less than that. anyways, i hear water running throughout the house and NOTHING is leaking. the only thing i can think of is the pipe running to the fridge's ice maker.

Refridgerator icemakers only use a small amount of water. As much ice as you get out, that's as much water as they use. It sounds to me like you have a leak someplace, probably in a crawlspace.

Have you looked at the bill? Our water bill is about that per month, but it also includes garbage, various taxes, etc. The amount we spend on just water is small.

Maybe the meter is broken? Doubt this as you probably wouldn't be able to hear the water running from all the way inside the house. Wherever the water leak sounds the loudest is probably where its at. Also, everything from the meter to your house is your resposibility, not the water dept.

I'm saying that the leak (if any) is probably in the foundation or in the ground. You're responsible for everything past the meter.
$50 bucks a month is not outrageous though. My bill (water and sewer) averages $40-50 every month (paid $120-150 a quarter).

Are there any toilets that run constantly or faucets that drip? Maybe a neighbor tunneled into your basement while you were on vacation and is stealing water now? :)

As others have said, the ice maker only uses the amount of water needed for the amount of ice you need.
Otherwise, where would the water go?
It doesn't just disappear.
If you can hear water running, you have a leak.
Call a plumber immediately before you get too much water damage.

Take some food coloring and put it in the tank of the toilets. Do not flush. Come back and see if the bowls have any color in them in 15 minutes.

You have a leak. When your taps are off, and when the ice maker isn't actively filling (that takes mere seconds every few hours), your meter should not move.

If you have an underground sprinkler system or any other outdoor taps, have those checked thoroughly.
