Does a 5V 0.5A HD better than 5V 1A HD significantly?

Hi there, my notebook is Asus M5N, with a hitachi HD, 8MB Cache 4200 RPM

5V 1A

a friend of mine has another notebook....and he brought a new HD from segate, 80GB, but having 5V, 0.4X A only...so a huge difference...would it siginificantly increase my battery usage time, you know the Asus M5N 3Cell is suck!

any idea?
