Does 8X AGp make a differance?

I want to upgrage my system and get a ATI AIW 9700pro. I am also going to get a new chip and baord. I am getting P4 2.4b (533FSB) so what is a good baord for it. how will performance differ with an 8x agp board?

there won't be any difference.

at least not until (?) sometime in the future

the 4x agp is still able to carry the graphics just fine and still has some headroom.

8xagp is for future graphics cards and it may be a while before it even becomes necessary

buy what fits your needs, don't worry about the 8x agp.it isn't needed yet

So far, AGP 8x is just a number that manufacturers use as a selling point. 4x is plenty with today's technology, but 8x may be required soon. In fact, I predict that within 1-3 years we will NEED AGP 8x fo our high-end games.

I think it makes a tiny difference on the lower end cards with 8x I.E. Gf4 mx460 ect. i think Nvidia will start producing them in 8x agp versions soon

Well, from what I understand, the ati 9700pro is THE top of the line card, for the next 5 minutes at least (when is the nv30 due to ship now). And besides at the rate I go in 18-36 monthes I'll have a new system anyway. Unfortunatly, now I really have no idea of what mobo to buy.

Just to add on to what people have said, at the moment there is no need for AGP x8. At the moment, the amount of data sent to the GPU isn't enough to warrant AGP x8, and is really just a selling point.

games like doom 3 will be able to use it. ut2003 can even uses it. its a good feature to have but without it your speeds do not change to much. but if you plan on keeping the mobo for more then a year i would get the 8x
