Does 802.11b get along with 2.4 ghz cordless phones?

I was thinking of throwing away my antique 900mhz phone (analog) and upgrading to a 2.4g digital phone but wonder if doing so will mess up my wifi connection- anyone know?

It will probably interfere quite a bit. I know that it wreaks havoc with my cell phone.

If your wireless client devices aren't too far from eachother, consider 802.11a, which works in the 5 GHz range and shouldn't cause problems.

At the current time I'm dling off my wireless internet, talking on my wireless phone, and using a bluetooth mouse. All run at 2.4ghz. No problems at all.

no problems here at all. multiple 2.4GHz phones, no problems with my cell phone, and we've got 3 802.11b computers accessing this access point. And in my dorm room even with the microwave in use, there is no effect on the wireless signal

In most cases yes.

2.4Ghz wireless does not like microwaves. Mine goes dead everytime some 1 fires up the micro wave. Prolly shouldn't have wireless in a dorm since there'll be alotta interference if ur in that situation.

I know if ur in a APT ur neighbors can bum some high-speed net off u through the walls 😀!

A few times I've had my wireless connection degrade a little bit when a 2.4Ghz phone is in the area. Usually if you play around with the channel settings on the access point for a little while, you can prevent that (I've found channel 6 is usually best, although channel 1 works in a lot of cases as well).

Unless you enable encryption (takes 2 min. to do) and, if needed, filter by MAC address.

802.11b has 3 distinct frequencies(even though it's 11 channels), so if the phone is causing interfearance on one, usually switching to another takes care of the problem. Microwaves, on the other hand, are the devil.

I believe it largely depends on the phones. For the WAP/clients I use, two different DSS Uniden models do not interfere significantly.

But the cheap Toshiba SG-1800 2.4 GHz DSS phone (that has long been unplugged) basically shut down my WLAN during calls.

However, recently I've been getting more interference, and I'm unable to determine the cause/source (maybe the next door neighbor bought a new phone?). Anyway, I simply changed the WAP from channel 6 to channel 1, and the wireless LAN is pretty much rock steady again.

As mentioned, you're slightly better off if you can plan out your devices to use different spectrums whenever possible. 2.4 GHz is getting awfully crowded these days.
