dodgy psu fried my system?

Installed 500W power supply to abit ic7 max 3 motherboard with 2.4ghz type c northwood p4. Connected motherboard power, maxtor 10 160gb sata power, and galaxy glacier 6800GT power. Powered up system, and got pink and yellow lines across bios startup screen. Letters all over post boot, and black squares all over bios screen. Rebooted PC and system just beeps. Replaced old 300W PSU and system continues to beep. Is it possible the PSU has fried my CPU or damaged my graphics card?
