How touch is the NV5600 Transmission? I looked it up and it is 550ft-lbs for the normal version and 650ft-lbs for the HD version. Can it handle these numbers in reality?

Why would they stick it on there if it couldn't?

:D thats for sure, never see so many axels and tranny's break in your life then the one's behind a Cummins.

I'm glad they are off to a fresh start though, they really needed to be.

My dad has one of the first NV5600's (one of the two '99 Cummins+6 speeds in California), the transmission is excellent. Even though the stick is about a yard long it still has a tight pattern, a good feel, and predictable shift points. The transmission itself is rather quiet (although compared to the Cummins everything is). It's big, very big. I have a Dakota w/ a NV3500 and am jelous of the shifting feel of the NV5600. (and 9000Lb travel trailers don't seem to phase it)

They need to get to building an Auto for you Mopar boys, I feel sorry for the power and momentem you guys loose with that huge throw. GM's V-8 walked your V-10's bacause the Allison came to the rescue.

What huge throw? Like I said, it's a tight pattern. (ie: about 6' from 1st to 2nd) and it can be tossed in first and just idle up virtually any hill. 1st redlines at about 5 MPH, put it in 4low and you're looking at a 2MPH redline :)

Remember, this is a truck tranny. Granny gears make for excellent creeping when maneuvering trailers. Especially on hills.
