Dodge Nitro

Rav4 V6 if you want a more car like ride.
Xterra if you want truck based off road capability.

Honerable mention to the Forester XT simply because it will humble many sports cars out there 😛

I think its completely fugly. I can't figure out who thought it was a good idea.

Man, that thing looks hideous. I usually love Dodge/Chrysler designs, but the last couple designs must've been stolen out of a Ford dumpster.

I'm all for the Ram, Charger, and Magnum designs. Their last 2 models - the Nitro and Caliber, just look like sh!t. Seriously, it's like the designers have been playing with their kids' fisher-price toys.

Go with the FJ or Rav4. Imports FTW

Nitro is seriously fugly, has a plasticky interior, and relentlessly mediocre performance. It is styled to try to look like something it's not, and has "Clueless Poser Wannabe" virtually written all over it. I hear PAB drives one. . . but that could just be a rumor. 😉

I completely disagree, I saw a couple at the DC Auto Show last week and they were awesome, especially the one they had in black. The inside was really nice too, not plasticky at all when you get in it - lots of room and the load-n-go thing in the truck was cool too. The Nitro looks way better than anything else that was there in its class.

I liked the looks of the Nitro, but then I test drove one. No power and the interior was very cheap looking and feeling.

And ugly to boot! That thing looks worse than the Aztec! :Q

FJ, hands down. Has the 2GR-FE V-6 (same one that powers the Tacoma, and IS350....hint hint) Ole girl can ROCK CRAWL out of the box, off road trails are cake.

The Nitro is a car based chassis that is never meant to be a true off road vehicle. The FJ had some SERIOUS history to live up to and it did it beautifully.

FJ Cruiser FTW

Based on your tastes in cars, is your fiance the same sex as you?

Thank you folks. You've been a great audience. I'll be here all week. 🙂

If you insist on getting something in this class, I suppose you could do worse then a Toyota FJ.

LOL, jeebus I haven't even test drove the thing yet.

Oh and for the record, the Rav4 was not station wagon of the year, it as the GL450 but the rav 4 was runner up. It really is a very very nice station wagon
*cough*

You aren't right on very many things in your post.

1. The engine in the FJ is a 4.0L, the IS350 has a (shockingly enough) 3.5L.
2. I have seen only 1-2 vehicles capable of truely rockcrawling, and this ain't one of them. I suspect you haven't been on fery many trails.
3. The Nitro is based on an SUV platform, it shares nothing with any car.

Doesn't Jeep have a couple new SUV designs. The Patriot and something else. Worth at least seeing.

Yeah I will take a look at them

The Nitro is actually based off of a Jeep platform, not a SUV. Also, I really like its interior when I got in one. MyGig wasn't out yet but besides that I was really impressed.

Don't bother. They are both based off the Dodge Caliber, which sucks big time. The Compass is one of the ugliest vehicles for sale today, IMHO, and both seem to seriously lack horsepower.
