Dodge Nitro

A few months ago we bought a new car for my fiance, now its my turn 😉

Does anyone here have a Nitro? What do you think of it? I am looking into the SLT 4x4 model.
Nitro

I will be test driving one in a few weeks and that will be my deciding factor but I am open to opinions positive or negative. I like the price, I like the looks. What other comparable vehicles should I consider?

Take a look at the Toyota FJ Cruiser. I was trying to decide between the Nitro and the FJ. Went with the FJ. Unless you need 4 full doors, I think the FJ beats the Nitro hands down in almost every way.

My wife wants one and honestly I wasn't impressed with it. To hummer-esque and hulky for me IMHO. Plus the mileage ratings on it suck and it's quite underwhelming.

I have seen those but did not really consider it because I thought the price would be much higher. I am suprised to see it right around the same price as the Nitro. I will have to do some research and take one out for a drive.

Thanks

I test drove a FJ and it's a seriously nice car with some attitude and style, the only porblem is it is hard to see out of. The weird wrap around rear window+ ginormous C Pillar make it somewat hard to get used to.

Of course you wouldnt catch me dead in a Nitro. Fugly truck of the year. I understand trying to look tough but that is just comical.

I's like ot put in another vote for the RAV4. I's seriously quick with the V6(something like 6.4 second 0-60), somehow still gets good mileage, looks nice and is in the price range also.

Man, that thing looks hideous. I usually love Dodge/Chrysler designs, but the last couple designs must've been stolen out of a Ford dumpster.

7 seconds, not 6.4, according to a google search.

Doesn't matter, both are fast as hell for a car like that. Gotta love that Avalon engine.

http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/suv..._suv_of_the_year/2007_toyota_rav4.html

Edmunds usually has the slowest acceleration times ever. I'm not sure why, myabe they dont powerbrake or do a launch of any sort.

0-60 MPH 6.4 sec
Quarter mile 15.0 sec @ 92.4 mph

That's comparable to a 1994 ford Mustang GT (Redesigned curvy 4.9L/5.0L V8 & 5 Speed Manual)

Oh and for the record, the Rav4 was not Suv of the year, it as the GL450 but the rav 4 was runner up. It really is a very very nice crossover suv.

Is that the one with the commercial where it gets dropped from the crane and proceeds to fall through the planet to the strains of "Beautiful World?"

If people don't like the styling then so be it.

As for visibility in the FJ, you can definitely knock it for that. Although, I have adjusted quickly to the limited visibility. I have just learned to trust my mirrors more.

The second biggest complaint is getting into the back seat. If you are routinely carrying around 2-3 adults in the backseat then I recommend another vehicle. There is plenty of space back there but the lack full doors on the back, it makes it hard to crawl in.

That FJ is ugly!, have they got confused trying to get a hummer/Daka rally copy? The front grill, LOL, and the back, nah! The Nitro looks better than that IMO

it's prob.a good vehicle. I'm thinking about a Dakota 4x4 quad cab. I need a truck and the quad cab would be nice for passengers and such.

The more I look at the FJ the more I like the looks of it. Others here have been bashing the Nitro on looks but I like it.

Alright Rav4 added to the list of Suv's to look at.

Any special reason you're considering a SUV over a car or truck?

No special reason, just my preference. I have wanted one for a while now.
