Just went to check out the new dodge dart. I really like the way it looks on TV and Magazine and made me want to see it in person. So today I went to the dealer and My first impression on the car is thtat it looks very cheap. I tried to find something that is appealing but it looks really bad. The back looks like a mini challenger.

IIRC, only the Limited/GT has a decent interior.

Colleague has one at work. Its not bad. Better looking than my RAV4 which isn't saying much. Pretty much a better looking Neon with a Fiat drivetrain. I wouldn't touch it haha.

The Dart is just a rebooted Neon with some more aggressive styling. Apparently they're still plagued with transmission problems.

I've had one as a rental for the past two months. Not a big fan, although I suppose a loaded up one with the touch screen would be liveable. The 2.0 feels slower that my Mazda 3, maybe its just a heavier car or something, but the 6 speed auto is nice. Still, this car is miles better than previous gen economy cars from Dodge, and by next gen in the under $20K category it could be a real good car. Assuming the asian cars make no progress at all.

Coworker got one. Hates it. Said everything has a delay on it - trunk, starting from a dead stop, etc. Her husband bought it for her, so she's stuck with it. Everything's electrical, and all of the electrical stuff is delayed is pretty much her summary.

Looks nice tho!

I lol'd and very much agree.

I could have posted that review from watching one drive by.

Did I tell you guys about my Ferrari 599 review from earlier in the week? I saw one drive by, and WOW was that a great car. In-depth review, you heard it here first!

;)

I do not think they are going to hire you for top gear. Your review is lacking substance.

even though it has nothing to do with the neon, there's just something about the belt angle and general proportions that reminds everyone (but throckmorton) of the neon.

Someone on these forums owns a modern Dart and really loves it.

Ok I believe it was stated earlier in this thread that I also had a Civic EX-L.

Dart is way quieter, the insulation and ride quality is just on a whole notha level with the dart. SOmething that even my car agnostic girlfriend sees. Dart is more peppy, and the 6 speed DSG in it just seems to work better compared to the archaic 5 speed in the civic. Civic went in for 4 dealer repairs since I got it Aug. of last year, Dart has been in for 1 (not a repair technically, a new headunit update that gave it the newer maps as well as fixed some bluetooth pairing issues). The screens (the limiteds have a screen in the dash instead of a speedo that is fully customizable) are just unlike anything other manufactures in this class. Once you use the 8.4N system of the Dart, 200, and 300 (the 300 having a more powerful 8.4N system), you wonder why it's not standard equipment in any car. The Civic EX-L's nav system is laughable at best and looks like a cheap tom tom. The leather quality and the two tone stitching in the dart are other notable qualities. There's just a lot of fit and finish things that the dart has that the civic didn't. The LED lit door pockets, floorboards, the red glow around the entire dashboard, even the rear pockets and floorboards are lit. At night the thing is just a pleasure to drive around town, and the manumatic can be a bit of beastly fun when cruising. The stock exhaust has an amazing growl (though the gf doesn't like it, she would prefer it quite and appliance like the civic).

To the civic's credit I have to give it a bit of a nod on space (seems a little less cramped) and on history (obviously the same engine/tranny combo has been thoroughly tested compared to the all new drive trains being used by ford, dodge, chrysler, and gm). To that note I still have to ask why hasn't honda rolled a DSG yet.

To the Focus, I've only tested hatchbacks. To be honest? I like it over the dart, but only fully loaded. I think the fit and finish was a notch up, there feels like a bit more power there, and I just think they are smexy :). Problem is the only way (IMHO) to get them is with the Titanium package. But a loaded titanium with moonroof is about 29k, vs. 22k for the loaded dart with moonroof and HID's :).

The dart is a great car, driven one. Yes, it's not earth shattering and it's in a crowded field. But I'm starting to see them pop up more and more. I hope Chrysler keeps fine tuning this car.

Had a turbo model and base in at the shop recently. The top interior package is very nice. The bare bones model stripper feels like a stripper. Surprise surprise the basic interior is basic.

If this were true, sales would skyrocket.

No, they will abandon it like they did every small car in last 15 years.

I bought one in march. I got the manual transmission Rallye model, added the 1.4 turbo option and they gave me winter tires on rims and the $300 option package (which is mostly unimportant stuff). No touch screen and other stuff that I already know Chrysler isn't the best at.

I'd give it a 7/10. Felt good at first but I got kind of used to it after 3 months. Normally I still love my new car but this one felt meh.

I come from a Mazda6 2005 hatchback. While it was a great car and very useful (hatchback trunk was awesome) it was a damn gasoholic and I was plagued with the motor mount problem, rust and other annoying stuff.

One of the advatage of the Dart, especially the 1.4 Turbo engine, is it doesn't use lot of gas on the highway and a lot less on the road. From the reading on my dash i'm running at around 5.5l on the highway and 7.5 on the road/city.

The interior is ok, not great, not bad. It look good enough and doesn't look cheap.

There's an annoying delay while accelerating and some other Dart drivers with the same model asked me if I had this. It's pretty annoying at first but then you kind of don't notice it.

Cars feel good to drive, sporty suspension and great handling. Sounds great too.

Overall not a bad car but not amazing either.

I'd sum up my appreciation of the Dart with this:

"It's like your favorite hockey team didn't do the playoffs"

Yeah that's the thing, it's like anything else - you just get used to it after awhile. My Kia Soul only had the 1.6L engine available in stick-shift and it's fairly underpowered (130 HP with only 118 torque for 2700 pounds), but once you get used to it, it's fine. Like for mine, it really likes to shift around 4-4.5k RPM's to do it smooth, whereas my other MT cars have much more range without slumping on each shift. But then you get used to it.
