Dodge Dakota question

My dad recently bought a used Dodge Dakota and last weekend we discovered the backup lights don't work. Does anyone know how we could fix this or has anyone else had this problem? I think he should just take it to the dealership and have it looked at but he's pretty stubborn about these things.

Try replacing the lightbulbs? Try looking in the book for which fuse corresponds to the lights and check to see if it's burnt out.
