Spec's

Radeon 9000 non pro DX8.1
250Mhz 4x2 pipelines
128bit memory 400Mhz

Geforce 6200 DX9
300MHz 4x1 pipelines
128bit memory 450Mhz

Ok these are the specs for both cards and i just wanna know if its worth upgrading to this a 6200 128Bit card ?? .. Will it run DOD that comes out today better then the 9000?

What do you think... oh and before you recommend a 6600 dont .. its out of the price rang of $60 Not a cent more.

It's would be a bit better, but not so much that I'd actually buy one if I already had a 9000. Unless you can find a used radeon 9500 on the FS/FT forum for $60, there's nothing much worth buying for $60 if you want a gaming card.

The 6200 is going to be significantly faster, I wasn't able to find a benchmark that directly compared the two in half life 2 but id say you would get 50% better performance with the 6200 in the dx9 codepath as the 9000 in the dx81 codepath. I don't think you're going to find a more reasonable upgrade on AGP, ever.

You can find new OEM and often new machine pulls for $45 shipped on eBay. I've purchased quite a few 9500s there due to the excellent price. A couple sellers guarantee the 256bit model, too.

The DX8.1 codepath is faster, I'd think the 6200 would be almost twice as fast under that.

You have any links to benches? AFAIK, the 6200 is just an overpriced, overhyped budget card that people give way too much credit based on the success of the high end gf6 series.

The 6200 was meant to compete with the x600 yes? The x600 is a pcie Radeon 9600, which is more than twice as fast as a 9000 pro, let alone a non pro.

By this logic, the 6200 would trounce the 9000 up and down.

Here is an AT 6200 benchmark comparing it to the x700, x600, 6600, x300se, and integrated graphics on the Source engine. The performance is rather dismal, though you should be able to run it in DX8 mode at 1024x768, is my guess.

It will be better than the 9000, however.

Edit: Here's another one for you.

No offence but the 9000 is a pile. It was a pile knockoff of the venerable 8500 when it was concieved and its still a pile. If you can find anything wothwile at that pricepoint it would be a ATi 9550 128bit memory bus 128mb ram card. Avoid used cards at all cost unless you know the person it came from and their habits.

The 9000 when it first came out would be equivalent to todays 6600GT.

The 9000 series was based off the Radeon 8500. One difference is that the 9000 series had lost one texture unit per pipe. Another is the 9000 implemented a superior triangle setup engine that that of the 8500. Another feature implemented was one that made stremed media appear less jaggy.

The 9000 Pro was at the WORST case scenario 5% slower than the 8500, but in most cases they tied, and it won in some as well.

The 9000 Pro/np were there to compete against the Geforce 4MX cards. The 9000s SPANKED them in performance, price, AND feature set. The Radeon 9000 was the first mainstream card to be 100% DX8.1 compliant.

And it was a pile... too little too late. If your going to spend your grocery money on a cheap card you might as well cut back on the soda and get the vendor's mainstream card for 30 dollars more. 9500PRO vs 9000 back in those days. By the way the 8500 family of cards have problems in modern games because of the DX9 Catalyst Drives. EVE Online and City of Heroes just to name a few. Catalyst 3.7 is as high as you can go to play EVE Online.

Well thats helpful i'm looking at overclocking the 6200 from 300Mhz to 500-550Mhz from reviews around the net it can be done.

And if its the NV43 core (6600) i'll try to unlock the extra 4 pipes with riva tuna and still overclock to 500-550 this should make it run ok.

I myself have a 6800GT Golden sample at 400/1100 but this should at least let my flatemate run DOD Source because his ATI 9000 at 250/400 doesnt.
