Hopefully nothing bad will come of this but you can bet some people are hoping for a scandal ;)

Personally, I doubt anything serious will come from this.

Same judge that did this

"Reuters 8/10/00 "??The Democratic Party figure convicted in March of using Buddhist monks to hide $109,000 in illegal campaign contributions went to court Thursday to seek a new trial. Lawyers for Maria Hsia, who helped organize a 1996 fund-raiser at a California Buddhist temple that was attended by Vice President Al Gore, argued that politics had overshadowed the trial, with prosecutors and U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman facing pressure to convict her. Prosecutors countered that Hsia's arguments had no legal basis. Nancy Luque, Hsia's lead attorney, cited an ongoing review of allegations that the case was improperly steered to Friedman -- appointed by President Clinton -- as grounds for Friedman's retroactive recusal, a step that could lead to a new trial. "I just don't think it's fair for those kind of questions to be in the air," said Luque at a motions hearing before Friedman. She said Friedman's awareness of the review may have "unconsciously or subconsciously" biased him against Hsia, who is out on bond. ?"

He likes people who give money to the dems

Judge Friedman is the same federal judge who presides over the Clinton/Gore-endorsed Sidney Blumenthal libel suit against Matt Drudge.
"...Judge Paul Friedman, who was appointed by President Clinton to the federal bench in Washington, DC, has sustained a decision by the Clinton-run Internal Revenue Service to remove the tax exempt status of a Christian church that had placed newspaper advertisements critical of Bill Clinton's moral views and policies.

Judge Paul Friedman, a prominent liberal lawyer from Washington named to the court in 1994, was assigned the criminal case against Democratic fund-raiser Maria Hsia (a close supporter of Al Gore). He threw out the case, but it was reversed on appeal, and Hsia was later convicted in a jury trial.

Friedman was also given the criminal case against Democratic activist Pauline Kanchanalak for laundering illegal campaign contributions. Early last month, Justice asked for merely a two-month postponement of the April trial. Friedman agreed but privately informed the prosecutors that it would be too hard to get a Washington jury in the summer and so he was delaying the trial until mid-November -- after the presidential election. ???

Nice honest un-biased Democratic yes man, that Friedman.

Don't worry, Ozoned, if the Cheney documents are ever actually released, they'll probably reveal a level of corruption that will make templegate pale in comparison. Rumor has it that the invasion of Iraq was laid out well in advance of 9/11 and phony claims of wmd's and terrorist ties, at those very meetings. We'll see, or not, depending on how the SCOTUS rules in the other related case...

Ahh, fond memories here.

When Cheney insisted that neither citizens nor congress had the right to know which corporate leaders--and political $upporters--met with him, or why these people were involved in our nations national policy decisionmaking...

From this came one of my ALL time favorite Ari Fleischer quotes--and infamous justification in defense of Cheney's secrecy: "The very document that protects our liberties more than anything else, The Constitution, was, of course, drafted in total secrecy" Fleisher said, and then added that "The founders recognized that in order to make careful decisions, they (the founders) wanted to set forth a deliberative and thoughtful process and they concluded to do so quietly."

Huh?

Someone forgot to inform Mr. Fleischer that the founders published every document immeadiately after their closed door sessions. And in fact, the founders made public every single document drafted, all the minutes of debates, and included the names of all involved in their creation.

These guys really think that every American citizen is a dupe or a fool or simply disinterested.

The truth is, more often than not--they are right. Lie, steal, cheat, etc. The odds are so heavily in their favor, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain--and if they do get caught in the middle of some improriety, they'll write a book about it.

Nice.

If this administration doesn't watch their step, they may become as mired in controversy and scandal as the Clinton administration.

The lawsuit is a separate one from another case involving Cheney that is now before the U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites).

The high court agreed in December to hear an appeal from Cheney, who is resisting a judge's order to produce documents about White House contacts with the energy industry in 2001.

The environmental group Sierra Club (news - web sites) and Judicial Watch sued in 2001 to find out the names and positions of members of the energy task force led by the vice president that year. They alleged that Cheney, a former energy company executive, drafted energy policy by consulting industry executives.

Hmm...a lawsuit and a case before the Supreme Court.

I thought Bush was going to bring integrity back to the White House? Guess he left it in Texas.
