Discus please.
I did not know that if a single country in the EU allows a vehicle , then it is allowed in all EU countries. That is interesting.
I personally do not find it odd that a car manufacturer and a government agency work together, like for example the Dutch RDW(loosly translated : national road traffic autority) works together with Tesla.
How else can one create a framework of laws and legislation rules for new developments like electrical cars.
But the decisions should always be made public. Because then an independent third party can also determine if there are no loopholes that might result in dangerous situations on the road.
Automotive is really harsh when it comes to strict rulings. But it is to keep the civilians safe.
That is interesting that there was a case in the Netherlands in 2018,2019 where the Tesla autopilot software did not recognize roundabouts and drove straight forward over the roundabout , eventually crashing into a pole.
I mentioned it on another thread, i would love to see an electric car without all that AI driving and without autopilot and accompanying electronics like cameras (and radar or lidars , as other companies have). Because it will be cheaper and that is a good reason.
Also , the manual of Tesla clearly stated that the driver has to stay alert, even while using autopilot.
But... We all know how us humans are, we get tired, we get drousy, we get emotional and autopilot is an excuse to give in, to be less alert. Because of human weaknesses, autopilot can be a danger.
Just like a car without autopilot, with a driver that is not paying attention. And then i am not even mentioning the mistakes autopilot can make.
And in the case that autopilot does make an error , how quick will de driver respond and take control of the vehicle again ?
And if autopilot shuts down and the driver still thinks that autopilot is active and pays no attention to the road. True cases with lethal situations and deadly casualties.
And reasons to forbid the use of autopilot IMHO. It is too early. And either all cars have autopilot or none.
And then there is "Phantom breaking", where the Tesla vehicle just breaks out of no apparent reason , and this happens on the highway. Happened in the USA. Wich caused a lot of casualties.
I think electric cars are one of many solutions against global pollution. Yay for electric cars, but a big NO : For autosteering and autopilot.
Fun to know is that the main (AI Autopilot) computer from the Tesla vehicles is kept cool by liquid cooling.
As a sidenote,
The Netherlands is known for being a tax-paradise for large foreign companies.
That makes me wonder if Tesla also gets tax cuts from the dutch government.
It is not that uncommon. We have a lot of big foreign compagnies that have their headquarters in the Netherlands for tax -cut reasons.
