Part of it is about the scientist who made the first chemical gas : Fritz Haber.
When he developed the first chemical weapon, his wife shot herself in the heart because she could not live with the idea her husband, the men she loved would develop weapons to kill humanity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Haber

Haber was born in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland), to Jewish parents of one of the oldest families of the town, but Haber later converted to Christianity.[1] His mother died during childbirth. His father was a well-known merchant in the town. From 1886 until 1891 he studied at the University of Heidelberg under Robert Bunsen, at the University of Berlin (today the Humboldt University of Berlin) in the group of A. W. Hofmann, and at the Technical College of Charlottenburg (today the Technical University of Berlin) under Carl Liebermann. He married Clara Immerwahr during 1901. Their son, Hermann was born in 1902. Before starting his own academic career he worked at his father's chemical business and in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich with Georg Lunge.

She shot herself in the heart on 15 May, and died in the morning. That same morning, Haber left for the Eastern Front to oversee gas release against the Russians.

EDIT :
It is a very tragic story and documentary...

It was an inevitable development. If he didn't make them, somebody else was going to.

Exactly. It is foolish to think that we will ever stop innovating new ways to slaughter each other. It's best to come up with the most deadly weapons first and use them on our enemies first. That is the way the world works. Everyone knows this.

True.
But i found it amazing that he would just go on to perform the fieldtest on that dreadful day.

Assuming the documentary is historical correct :

But have you seen the reaction of Churchill ?
It surprised me that if it was not for the military leaders of England at the time England would have used gas much sooner in the war.

I am not sure everybody knows this. But i have to agree that without a change of mind of humanity you are very right.

Fritz Haber was so early 20'th century primitive, the world has come a long way since baby, and now we have nerve gasses the can be absorbed through the skin and a single drop can be fatal. And should we fail to mention anthrax, that now can be weaponized by even fairly low tech means.

Gotta love the human race and technology that is ever more inventive in finding new ways to kill our fellow humans. It makes me so proud I could puke.

These innovations are the reason why you have the quality of life you do today. Everyone knows this.

Because we hate ourselves we will continue to develop weapons with which we will finally be able to kill ourselves off once and for all. We will be profoundly proud of ourselves up to then because we are fools. We have to do this because we do not know that we feel we do not deserve to live. We can't see the evidence of our self hate when it is right in front of our faces. We can't be safe till the other is dead and the other is us.

Pathetic. Throughout history, men like you have sat around campfires babbling incoherent nonsense, while men like me go to war and fight for our people. You are what is wrong with the human race, Moonbeam. People like you are all talk and no action. Every time men gather for war, fools like you come and vomit up your useless objections. You are a stain, Moonbeam, a stain that needs to be removed from humanity. Everyone knows this.

What's fucked about these stories is how they try to incite hatred against religious groups. In that documentary, what needless shit did they say about Haber? First they establish that he's this evil Jew, possibly part of the Jewspiracy. Them Jews invented chemical weapons!

What does his religion have to do with anything? Why would anyone care if he's Jewish or if he converted to Christianity? I remember similar trash about Oppenheimer. Look at how this evil Jew directed the project to create the nuclear bomb. Are these videos created by klan members?

It was relevant because of the parallel with Germany and because it is ironic. It has nothing to do with "evil jews". The connection is the jewish victims and Germany. In this case it was just a man. Was it relevant if the first men was a blue eyes blond man ? No because that was expected by many people. Ironically before the man died, he requested to be buried next to his wife. Because after he had to leave Germany, he realized what he had done. Karma... It is a sad story of a man. Thousands of those can be found...

If moonbeam is what's wrong with the human race what do you think of a person who says "These innovations [better ways to kill people] are the reason why you have the quality of life you do today."?

If you look closely at the quality of his life, he may have a point.

That was melodramatic of her.

She was a chemist as well, dedicated to science as a way for the advancement of humanity. Their house was right next to the laboratory where he developed the gas. She got another chemist, a good friend of her's, a job there.

One day, there was an explosion, and she ran to the building to find her friend dying horrifically, poisoned by the gas.

Haber's gas was first used at Ypres, where it caused 10,000 gruesome casualites in one day. Haber got a army promotion to Captain. His wife, who all along had morally and ethically opposed the development of this gas, was appalled and horrified to her core.

There was a big party celebrating his promotion for killing all those soldiers right after. Unable to stop these events, and unable to stand by and take it any longer, after they had gone to bed that night, she got up and shot herself through the heart with his service revolver.

As a chemist, she knew more than most exactly what poison gas did to a man, and her own husband was chiefly responsible for all this.

Does this give you more context to perhaps better understand the acute and highly informed despair that drove her to commmit suicide?

Theflying pig wages war on the cockroaches in his basement bedroom while dressed in pink crotchless lederhosen and a disturbingly lifelike Martin Bormann mask whenever he's not beating off to his collection of grainy 8mm porn flicks featuring a yoga fanatic dressed up as Frederich Nietzsche fully bent over and pumping his own ass while cackling, "Ich bin der ubermensch" over and over again in a faggy Austrian accent.

The neighbors regularly complain about his late night yodels and screams.

Everyone know this.

I'd say that person has a clear view of the realities of the world. Only a fool would fail to see that the innovations of war affect technological and cultural advancement of society. Everyone knows this.

I am not sure everyone knows this.

What i do know, is that financial budgets are very large when at (cold) war.
Thus developments and research previously thought to be too expensive could then be realized. With that in mind, it is easy to explain where the innovations of war come from. The only other way is when an investor sees an opportunity to make money in the long run and thus invests in scientific research and development.

When humans have a common goal like for example an mutual enemy it is easy to get things done. When there is no mutual enemy, A distinctive large part of humans get lazy(EDIT : Forgot to mention that is where the social structure becomes important, that is to drive out the laziness .Humans are lazy by nature(evolutionary advantage, a lazy human consumes less energy)). Only a small group is driven by idea's and curiosity (NOT ideals, those are for the religious part of humanity) so strong that it overrules the standard human behaviour. Humans are lazy by nature. Will not do anything if there is no return of investment. If that investment may be money or labour. Afcourse there are always exceptions. These (lucky) ones are the ones that change history.

When talking about advancements of war, this is a very good documentary :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFSPHfZQpIQ

It is about the advancements of war. And why silicon valley really exists.
The smart thinkers with an idea : Frederick Terman and William_Shockley.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Terman

Without this man, humanity would not have the electronic advancements today. It would come, nevertheless though.

From a certain perspective, you are right. When looking at the bigger picture you are wrong.
