I can't think of any other show where I actually seem to care about the characters. The characters are so likeable, even some of the non-important ones. I actually feel excited, worried, happy, sad, etc for the characters.

For a sci-fi show, it also really has it's emotional moments.

Anyone else feel the same about this show or any other shows?

Are you talking about season 1 only, or the show since being "reborn"?

Only agree from series 5 and up since Matt Smith + Karen Gillan.

David Tennant was good, but nowhere near as good for me as the new incarnation. Eccleston and Billie Piper were amazing though.

I'm only on season 2 right now, but i feel the same way for both seasons and doctors so far.

I respectfully disagree; I think Tennant was better than Matt Smith. Smith is good, but he's a bit too manic in my opinion.

Oddly, the only show I can recall caring about the characters a great deal was an anime: Full Metal Alchemist

Brilliant writing and voice acting.

EDIT: Also cared about the characters on The O.C., Roswell, Buffy, Firefly, and Angel.

Yep, I meant Smith was/is better. Batshit-crazy 900 (now 1100?) year old doctor is exactly how I see him as.

Eccleston got me interested initially. Tennant was meh for me until the more recent Christmas Specials (Kylie Minogue and later), so that means post-Martha. Liked him very much in the final two specials where he dies though.

It's probably moreso the writing than the Doctor alone. R.D. Anderson made Doctor Who look/feel cheap and repetitive, almost like he did it on purpose. The "spaceship attacks at Christmas time" got a bit old, and the most recent Special was hillarious - the Doctor blows the ship right at the beginning and gets it over with.

I think Matt Smith the best. Eccleston and Tennant were too melodramatic and gave me a headache sometimes.
