Docsis 2.0 bandwidth per channel

I hear alot about docsis 2.0 and see that motorola already has there modems available to cable operators as of this month and to the public next month. And I hear alot of things about this technology allowing cable providers to give each user upto 3 times more bandwidth (because of the more bandwidth per channel and more effiecently done). Does anyone else see anything good coming out of this technology ? and when will isp's make these upgrades to there systems ?

Depends. In a lot of markets broadband sales have either leveled off or sagged while the infrastructure is still being built up. These areas won't see an investment in more infrastructure for quite some time because they won't see a break even/make a profit point.

Areas that are teeming with subscribers will be a likely candidate but the question is will the cable provider's backbone be able to handle an increase in used bandwidth across the board.

Yes, good could come out of this. Bad could as well, like higher prices or the creation of two somewhat seperate networks for two different bandwidth capabilities and two different prices. It should be rather interesting.
