DOCSIS 2.0 compliance worth worrying about?

I'm looking for a new cable modem, and dont know if DOCSIS 2.0 is something I should be going for. I like a certain one, that is only 1.1 compatible. But if 2.0 is really important, I guess thats something I need to know.

From what I've read it will increase speeds, but I've had doubts whether or not it will increase the speed from 500kbps to anything higher than we get with current cable modems (1.0/1.1)....

thanks in advance, im kind of in crunch time.

I does not hurt to have one. Since it is reverse compatable with a docsis 1.1 cable network. I would recomennd the Motorola Surf Board SB 5100 or D-link docsis 2.0 (cant remember the model number) cable modems.

I'm considering getting the Dlink or Moto. The dlink would look nice with a dlink router, and they have a full line of PCI cards as well. Even though I would prefer to use Netgear.. decisions decisions.

D-link is using a Texas Instruments (Turbo Dox) chipset and Motorola uses there own. I am using motorola, but Try the D-link turbo dox really helps when downloading large files.

Is either one better than the other?

I dont see a whole lot of consumer cable modems on the market, those two are the only ones I've ran across.
And this Netgear that has my interest (http://netgear.com/products/details/CG814M.php), you know what it uses for a cable modem?

My current Linksys cable modem is fine, but AIM keeps being disconnected.. it was investigated by myself thoroughly in another thread.. so I guess i have to say good bye to a one box solution.. or use that netgear and give up 802.11g.

Bunch of shit.

Check this email to Linksys support that got returned:

The firmware on the WCG200 needs updated. AOL Instant Messenger will not
stay online with this unit.

I have done thorough research into this issue, and it is this WCG200.

Here are links with similar problems from the same unit.

(read Mr. Ruckus's posts PLEASE, heres a quote that should not be missed)-
"So basically, the firmware is the issue. I called Linksys & low and
behold they think a firmware upgrade would solve it. Only problem is they
have no firmwares available at this time for my WCG200 unit. Even if they
did since its branded by comcast, they (being comcast) are the only ones
"Authorized" to upgrade it."

I dont know what else you guys need. But it appears that this unit needs
some kind of update to fix this issue, and it appears to be affecting that
game mentioned as well (Asherons Call), as well as all the units you sold
to Comcast.

Personally, if theres no update on this situation I'm selling this unit,
the Linksys wireless PCI card and laptop PCMCIA card I bought from you
guys' and going to use a different brand.

Please let me know what is going on, and what you are doing to fix it. I
like this unit a lot and don't want to have to get rid of it.

Thank you.

No response. Even though they are required to respond, they just sent it back to me with no solution or answer.

A-holes.

I sent it again, with this addition:

Thank you.

PS. I've sent this problem in before, and got a email response with the "Suggested answer" part empty.

I will do whatever it takes to A) Get this fixed, or then B) Hurt your future sales as much as humanly possible.

I know I cant do much to a corporation, but never undestimate the power of the individual.
Grrrrrrrr.
