PLANO, Texas ? Microtune Inc. has launched the MT1560 upstream amplifier for customer premise equipment cable modem designs this week, joining Broadcom Corp., Conexant Systems Inc. and other chip makers vying for a piece of the emerging Docsis 2.0 market.

The Docsis 2.0 specification has gathered quite a bit of attention in the broadband sector over the past few months. Through the spec, cable operators can increase their upstream data rate from a few hundred kilobits/second into the range of 30 Mbits/s.

i wish :)

That would be awesome. :D

The RIAA will sue any cable provider that tries to increase the upstream that much. :disgust: :|

I wish they sold cable modems with the Docsis 2.0 but i couldn't find them for sale. I just wanted it to be up to date in the future just in case my cable modem isp said only Docsis 2.0 cable modems will now work. I know we won't see the increase of upload speed but still it could be better by having it shared better as in more of a safety net of more upload bandwidth that makes sure you get very close to the full amount of upload speed always.

I wonder if any of the current modems will be firmware upgradable to this version like most are already upgradable via firmware....just not sure about version 2.

Sure they will allow this. Of course in the fine print they will tell you that you can only upload 2GB per MONTH! :Q

Cheers!

Don't bet on getting that sort of speed, guys. Unless they cap it at a total, it would be far too expensive for a consumer.

Definitely need DOCSIS 2 in Toronto ;). Damned Rogers network has the MOST pathetic upstream bandwidth.

I second that. Switching to Bell soon. Good to know people who work at Bell. :)

I was thinking of switching to Sympatico too, but they imposed a 5GB up/down bandwidth limit - ridiculous! I'm assuming you're going with one of the other DSL providors? Supposedly AEI doesn't limit transfer.
