Docking Station problem/network card?

Here's my problem. When I hook my laptop up to the docking station it takes a minute after the desktop is shown before I can do anything with it. Actually all my icons don't even appear, just my Start menue/taskbar. The pc is completely inoperable until the Local Area Connection Network Cable is Unplugged icon appears in the taskbar.

Can I completely disable my laptop from looking for the network card in a docking station? I have already tried to disable it in the BIOS but it doesn't seem to work.
Any help is appreciated.
