DOA?

I am building a new machine with an athlon 2600+barton on an asus A7V8X-X. It will not POST, no beeps at all. I've swapped memory, video card, hard drive, and power supply into a working unit and all work fine. I'm assuming this mobo is DOA.

My working unit is an epox 8K7A with an athlon 2200+, this is the fastest cpu supported by this mobo. It is a 266Mhz FSB board (Vcore is 1.66v).

Is it safe to put the new 2600+ cpu (333Mhz FSB) in my epox board to confirm its status?
Any advice will be appreciated.

I had that happene to me once too.

Turns out I had the power "on" pins on the bottom right turned around backwards. 😱

Try setting up the mobo on a surface such as a desk. This way you can see if it is shorting out.

assuming the desk isn't made of aluminum, steel, or any other type of conductive material.

Thanks I'll try stripping it out. When I power it on the H.D. spins up, the cpu fan runs and the mobo
(power on) LED is lit. Taking it apart now.

Probably around your I\O shield, and your motherboard mounting standoffs. You ARE using standoffs aren't you 😉
