DOA X6800 Conroe Core 2 Duo Extreme

I finally got my CPU from Newegg.com today. I had ordered it Friday with Overnight shipping. I got 2GB Corsair XMS 1066 DDR2, an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe, and of Course the X6800 Extreme Core 2 Duo. Well, I put everything together after I pulled out my Dual Opteron 285's.. =) and when I went to fire it up, my DVD drives appear to be in a constant reset state. I threw in my spare 3.2Ghz P4 chip and the board fires right up. I have tried reseating, and everything else imaginable to get it to post, but nothing is working. This board claims to have support for the CPU, and there are no BIOS updates that I can find, not even a beta.
Anyone have any ideas here, or know of a beta BIOS for this board I can experiment with?

So if anything, the board is DOA, not the CPU?

BTW what are you going to do with the pulled Opty 285s? :D

Mike, you need to call Asus. If there is a BIOS you need, they'll happily e-mail it to you. I thought the P5N's weren't C2D compatible, though. Anyway, they'll know, just give them a call.

I called them about my P5W DH Deluxe and X6800, and the guy emailed me the correct BIOS while I waited on the phone for it to arrive.

I have a bad memory, so I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that your experience with an Asus board, plus an X6800 was what I was remembering.

The board is the SE edition which is supposed to support the Conroe chips. The BIOS is supposedly the only one released, not sure. This sux. I am calling ASUS right now, so we shall see I suppose.

FINAL CONCLUSION:

Intel sux hard. Would not offer me an advanced exchange even though I am a channel partner and they have done it for me before. my belief is that they don't have enough to keep up with warranty purposes. Seems quite a few of them have had issues.

Intel sux hard, but I bet you haven't even called ASUS yet right?
ASUS has stated that Core 2 Duo ES chips are slightly different than retail. Hence why you are hearing (or not) about all the bios flashing going on with new mobos from ASUS, Gigabyte and others. Another thing, your board may be Core 2 Duo ready, but is it Core 2 Extreme ready? Do yourself a favor, call ASUS and get your system running instead of all this complaining. Especially when the answer has been given to you 3 times already in this thread.

OP, if anything, you brought this mess upon yourself. You dropped $1K+ on a CPU but bought a mobo that uses old chipset to save $10? If you had purchased the ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI, this thread would never have existed.

No doubt. What was the logic behind that decision OP?

Maybe he bought it for the SLI support

you do realize that the 975x is an older chipset too just updated/revised to work with core 2 duo...?

and yes, geekwannab is right, he might have bought it for the sli support.

I assumed that, but I just had to ask.

Correct, I am running it for the SLI support, specifically 2x 7950GX2 support. I did talk to ASUS and they said bad CPU, they have tested the retail x6800 chips and they work fine. The choice of board had nothing to do with money, cause if I was a cheap @$$ to save about 250 bucks I would have waited for the 590 premium. But I wanted it now, so I am using this board until I can get a premium.

Besides, why would I spend over 1K on a CPU when it first comes out then try to save 10 bucks?

You logic is illogical.

BTW keysplayer, if you read the post it said I am calling ASUS right now... Hence the next call to intel....

BTW, newegg gave me a full refund no restocking fee. I love newegg. Or maybe it's because I am a cheapskate and spent over $18,000 with them in the last 13 months.... Hmmm? I must be cheap.

hmm 2 months later you still did not figure out how to fix it...

jeez, all you had to do was reset the bios followin the instructions in the manual. pull out the battery, place the jumper on pin 2 and 3 to clear checksum. put jumper back on pin 1 and 2, put the batt back in, and OMG we now have video. same thing happend to me buddy, if you would have kept this thread up I would have helped you.

But thanks though! That's what ASUS told me to do anyways (already tried it at that point).

First thing I usually do on a new motherboard is reset the BIOS, actually any time I change the CPU I do. Force of habit now I guess.

Yeah, I just got the 6400 from another member on this board. it's an ES, he said it will OC to 3.0Ghz on stock intel default voltage. At this point with the CPU I believe him. =P My motherboard has reached it's limits. I am going to sit with this one til the premium comes out and swap them out. So if you want a screamin deal on an SE Deluxe... =P

I have the SE lol... dude dont waste money on the premium, it has the exact same C19 northbridge. you will hit the exact same FSB wall. That board is a hoax, its a NF4 NB/NF590 SB hybrid. Save your money for NF680i with the new C55 NB. That should hit around 450 mhz (according to shamino from vr zone and his buddys)

and read my reply to your other thread.
