DOA CPU?

Helped a friend build a system and got a no-POST. We swapped everything out except the mobo (Soyo KT333) and CPU (XP1700) and even built outside the case. My assumption was that it must be the mobo that was bad. Replaced the soyo with an ASUS and now the error voice message says CPU failure. Swapped the CPU and sure enough that was the problem.

So here's the problem. It's now one and a half months later and it turns out the CPU was DOA. Will newegg still accept a return on it? ANyone ever had a DOA CPU before? I haven't.

I don't know if Newegg will accept it as an RMA. Ordinarily, your orders vanish from the NewEgg RMA Request online file after about 30 days. So, without that, you may have to call and beg.

they show RMAs from a long time ago for me. go login and do request RMA, put in your username/password, and it will give you a list of things that are able to be returned/replaced/fixed.

if you dont see it, then you are SOL.

although, CPUs are a different story. i assume it was retail since i dont think they ship them out OEM. if newegg will not give you the RMA you are looking for, then ask Intel for an RMA. it should have a manufacturers warranty.

If you purchased a retail boxed processor, Intel will replace it for you. If you purchased an OEM processor, you have no warranty on it. However, if you RMA'd that Soyo mobo to Newegg trying to get things working and now you know it's the processor, Newegg may swap it for you since they have a record of you trying to diagnose the problem.

The prices between OEM & Retail as so close lately, I just buy Retail for the warranty. When I do go the OEM route, I buy from MWave as they offer 1 year warranty on their OEM processors. (for AMD, they only sell Retail Intels)
