DoA 3850... or is it?

I recently bought this as an upgrade to my 8600gts (yeah, I was a sucker and bought one). After popping it in, I attempted to boot but there was no video signal and I received the "video error" beepcode. After doublechecking and reseating and all the usual fare, I concluded that it must just be a dud, so I'm getting ready to RMA. Put the 8600 back in and everything is fine (at least it's reliable).

However, out of curiosity I was trying to google around about it and came across this, which suggests I might simply be screwed. Is there anything substantial to this? Just FUD? Fixed before release?

I really hope it's not true, otherwise this will be a repeat of the whole Asus P5A + Riva TNT thing from the k6-2 days, if anyone remembers that. Hit me hard, probably the most vexing experience I've ever had with computers. Forums were filled with hunches, arcane tricks, and dashed hopes. But I digress... here is my rig:

newegg will do DOA replacment , call them today and get it replaced. Your board wouldn't have that problem , most of the issue P35 owners are having are the owner of Asus mobo :! I have a Powercolor 2x 3850 running on Gigabyte P35 DS3P

That link doesnt seem to be true - tons of 3850's/3870s are installed on P35s without problems.

Did you pop in the 6-pin PCIE connector? I took my 8800Ultra out once and forgot to plug in the 2 PCI-E connectors and got the loud error beep as well until I realized I forgot it. Common mistake, so double check again.

Also, if you have another rig around, try popping it in there before deeming it DOA.

I have that board and it works fine with Sapphire's 3850 512mb, make sure that you have the latest BIOS upgrade from gigabyte.

As for your old ALi Aladdin V/TNT2 issues...well the trick to that was just to set the AGP slot to 1x instead of 2x....I have a old K6-2/550/ ASUS P5A-B rig with a GF2MX in it...runs perfectly fine at AGP 1x.

Make sure you are not shorting out the mobo when you install the video card. Make sure it is making contact in the PCIE slot and put in the 6 pin power connector.
