I've had pets that glanced up at the set every now and then, but man, my dog sits there and watches TV attentively. It's only when dogs or other animals are on the screen. It started when he was a puppy and we turned on the dog show. We turned around saw him staring at the screen and dismissed it as a fluke. Then during the commercial he put his head down and looked away. When it came back on he was alert again and watching, eyes following all the dogs on screen. Since then he watches the Dog Whisperer all the time. Anytime a dog barks on TV he looks up and looks for it. Really cute.

When we got a 46" LCD I started watching Sunrise Earth. The first day there were birds on the screen and he got up and sat down in front of the set and started barking at the bird. Now he watches it every morning, just sitting on the coach checking out the animals. This morning my cat got in on the action and was watching for a bit (which she never really does). A pretty good endorsement for HDTV I guess :)

They don't watch TV, but I have a cat that likes to sit on my monitor and bat at things on the screen when I play computer games.

I've read where animals are more sensitive to refresh rates. Older tube televisions get ignored my some animals, but newer HDTVs hold their attention. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not, but you aren't the first that I've seen bring up the issue.

We have a VCR tape called Video Catnip that our cats would go nuts watching. I dumped it down to DVD so the fun can continue on the 62". One of our beagles loves Sunrise Earth on the big screen as well. Our other beagle is afraid of the Sopranos and as soon as she hears that HBO white noise intro she heads for greener pastures. Even the Verizon commercial that used the Sopranos theme made her nervous.

My dog doesn't watch it but I have seen him react to animal sounds on just 3 occasions in the 10 years he's been with me.

I thought it was just my dog. I have two and the one will definately watch animal shows. He used to bark and growl but now will set up when there's one on.

Funny someone mentioned their pet not liking the Sopranos because our Min Pin LOVES watching the Sopranos with me.
He also seems to really like 24 and The Sheild (although I think he's of the mindset that 24's jumped the shark ;)).

He will stand at attention with nape hair up if he hears a dog bark on TV too.

They do if there's a show on with barking dogs or something. It's funny to watch them perk up, look around, figure it out, and then stare are the TV for a while. heh.

there was a show with dogs in it on tv and i tried to show my dog to see if it would get interested.... it just didn't give a sh*t:p actively disinterested, sorta like when i hold it up in front of a mirror to see if it can recognize itself.

My cat ignores the tv unless there is porn on. He'll sit still and watch that as long as it's on, even if it's an hour. It's kind of weird, kind of creepy.

Hot Shots Golf 3-4 have got my cat's attention a few times, which Im assuming he was hearing the birds chirping and stuff in the background and that got his attention.

Yea, when there are animal shows on, especially other dogs, my dog will watch. Our cat watches sometimes, but only if something small is darting about the screen.
