Do your contact lenses have letters 'etched' in them?

My Focus 2 week lenses have 'CIBA' engraved, or etched, in each lens. You may have never noticed this as it cannot be seen except from a certain angle. You need to hold one on your finger up to the light and look around the edge, the word is about 1mm from the edge.

I'm just wondering about other brands.

edit>> there is nothing special about my lenses, they cost about $15 for a 6-pack

Do you have estigmatism(sp?)? I have it pretty severe, so I have to get special cut lenses that will only focus when put in the right way, so they put lettering by the side that points to the bridge of my nose. Maybe this is why your have it?

My Acuvue 2's have the numbers 123 on the side so you can tell if you have them inside out or not.

I used to have CIBAs that had the same etching on them. I'm using some "Cooper Vision" lenses now and haven't seen any etching. These suckers are SO thin though it would be nearly impossible to etch something into them without destroying the lense.

My contact lense have no letters or numbers etched into them.

I don't need numbers or letters to tell me if I have my contact lenses in the wrong way or not. I've been wearing them so long that I can feel if they are in the wrong way or not.

That's what the etchings are there for.
And I'm just like you AmazonRasta- with just a glance, its not hard to see if your contacts are inside out or not. However, if I do happen to put them in inside out, 1) The contact burns like hell 2) my vision is blurred, so I have to take it out and put it in the right way, which then option 1 occurs.

Astigmatism here. Blinder than a bat. I have a simple line etched on the side of the lens that should be on the bottom. Helps a lot since I am a complete moron, also.

When I first got contacts in middle school I remember the doctor explaining it to me (before they etched on them.) When you put the contact on your finger correctly, it will be shaped like a bowl (with the curve always sloping inward.) If it's inside out, it will be shaped kind of like a saucer with a slight outward lip-effect at the edges. Hard to describe really. This link explains it better.

Mine are hard to tell sometimes... The easiest way for me to tell is when my eye spits it back out.. :D

My contacts have some sort of letters on them. I haven't looked in a long time though. They're Bausch & Lomb something or other.

The way that I've always been told to tell whether your contacts are inside-out or not is the following: look at your hand, and make a movement to close your hand/fingers very slightly, while keeping your fingers straight. Just move your fingers like 2 centimeters towards closing them into a fist. There will be a crease that runs across your palm, which runs all the way to the edge of your palm to a point about halfway between the base of the thumb and the base of the index finger. (I don't know, is this your life-line or something? Anyway, I've got similar ones on either hand, right or left.) Put your contact in that crease. If, when you bend your hand, the contact folds neatly in half, it's the right way out. If it kind of crinkles and looks like it's resisting the folding and bends outward a bit, it's the wrong way out.

I have hard contact lenses, therefore I can't put them in wrong.

My previous soft pair did have L and R etched on each one tho.
