Do you www?

While it has become quite a habit to me to hit the www.xxxxx.xxx into the url-bar, I recently stopped to clout that w-key, saving me some cramps in the left ring finger. The 3rd lvl-domain (and 2nd lvl of course) should be enough, because sub-domains are for sub-topics on a page. While at the beginning of the www, it was quite hard to reach a web page without the www, meanwhile most servers don't mind if you use it or not. But most I've seen browsing the Internet wouldn't even dare to think about leaving it away. Hell, they don't put the http:// in front, so why not just leave away the www?

To distinguish it from other servers. Sometimes www is the name of a server.

You could have:

www.deepfriedpigeons.com: Web server for the web page
ftp.deepfriedpigeons.com:FTP server for files
news.deepfriedpigeons.com: News server for pigeon frying newsgroups

wow, now i know i dont even need to type the SHIFT, thanks mwtgg 😛

In Firefox, Shift+Enter is .net 😉

I don't type any of that crap..

Ctrl+Enter for .com
Shift+Enter for .net
Ctrl+Shift+Enter for .org

I just press "a" and Anandtech comes up, or "f" and forums.anandtech.com comes up, and then I just click on it.
Simple.
Or I use crtl + enter, or wait for people to link to places for me 😛

Most of the time, I don't. It's just espn.com or google.com for me. There are a few exceptions; for example, the last time I checked, Clemson's domain requires the www. to precede the clemson.edu. If it's a site I know requires it, I use it; if not, I don't. Ctrl+O, type, enter, nice and quick.

I printed out the internet and have all the pages neatly stacked in my room. I don't surf anymore.

In fact, you're actually looking at a jpeg of a page I printed out a second before you entered this thread.

My printer is tired.
